I applied EDNov 08 2004Other
I applied ED. With a 50% acceptance rate, I thought it would be easy for most decent students to get in, but I've seen some inconsistencies among my friends who applied. I visited and had an interview with an admissions officer in my town. I had good SAT scores but my grades weren't great.

Getting admitted isn't that hard, just be a good, well-rounded student. If you're looking for scholarships, though, go for a high SAT/ACT score and make sure you have extracurriculars to write essays about.
ACT: 36 SAT: 1490 Female
I sent in my application over the internet (becauseJul 07 2004Political Science
I sent in my application over the internet (because it was free). Not that it mattered because I'm poor and can't afford college. So, I have the need thing. But, I'm also really smart. I made it through high school with a 3.7 GPA. I took both SAT and ACT and did decent according to me: 1170 SAT and 27 ACT. **But, then again I also took both tests without glasses that help me read**

U of R is a breeze to get into for anyone who's really smart. If you're not too smart, but want a chance, apply online... IT'S FREE (or at least it was). I've had a conversation with people in admisions and grades and numbers aren't everything to them. And they really put thought into the system. In fact, they're so good, they could probably point every applicants file out by name. There is no racial weight, however there is a "Diversity" consideration. But then again, being rich in a poor neighborhood makes you "diverse" and so does knowing how to speak 3 languages or living in 2 separate countries. Chances are if you have a 3.0 or higher and really care to get into college, you have a chance.

Other aspects of you are important, be real, and advertise yourself. Do what it takes to get into college if you're not a senior. That means extra curriculars and employment. Because trust me, numbers are not crap sometimes. There are probably some soon-to-be-unstatisfied straight 4.0's students that will get the small envelope from U of R in June.
ACT: 27 SAT: 1170 Male

I volunteered quite a bit during high school, wasMay 05 2004Public Health
I volunteered quite a bit during high school, was active in club activities, and went to a highly selective New York City high school that you will soon find that an awful lot of people here seem to have gone to. I also had an SAT score in the high 1400's, and wrote a somewhat well worked on essay for my application. I took several SAT II's and back then they still allowed you to release only the scores you wanted released so I showed the scores that were above 700.
However, I did NOT do so well average-wise in high school, doing so poorly junior year that my average both semesters was in the 70's. As you may have heard many times, junior year is "the most important year". Judging by some of my rejections (from colleges which were previously safeties), this might in fact be true. Nonetheless, UR seemed to be willing to forgive this fault of mine and accept me as I had improved my grades back to their previous status by senior year. Don't take this to mean that I'm happy with this school because they were the only ones to accept me-they weren't. I had the choice of another Tier one university along with all the Universities in the State University of New York system. But it does show that their acceptance process is willing to look at your academic career as a whole, and the things you've done outside of school, along with your essay and decide based on you as a whole. And I for one appreciated that they were one of the universities who could deal with a person having made mistakes academically.
